Welcome!

Hi. I’m Josh. Welcome to the first of (hopefully) many posts on our new blog. What should you expect and why should you bother? Glad you asked.

Watch this space for information on our favorite subjects: beer, wine and spirits. Several of us here at Sam’s will be writing regular updates, and I’ve already lined up some guest bloggers from a few of my favorite breweries.

Let’s be honest: there are literally eleventy billion different items out there, ranging from the familiar ones like Budweiser and Mondavi to the relative newcomers to our area like New Holland and Razor’s Edge. It can be a bit overwhelming at times, even for those of us in the industry. It seems as if every week I see ten new beers, wines, and liquors. Then I blink and someone adds six more.

If I work in the industry and have a hard time keeping track, what is your average consumer to do? That’s where we come in; putting in the hard hours of “ahem” product testing so we can share our views with you. While I realize that we all have our favorite brands, and everyone’s taste buds are different, we’ll do our best. Not only that, but you won’t find any wine snob or beer geek jargon here (or not too much. Sometimes I can’t help showing off a bit.)

I’ve always hated it when someone describes a wine as something along the lines of “earthy, with a hint of tobacco. To me, that sounds like dirty cigarette butt, which is not appealing. Also, since I don’t routinely eat dirt (or haven’t in, say, the last twenty something years) or chew on old cigarette butts, it doesn’t give me a clear idea of what the taste truly is.

Before I go off on any more long, rambling tangents, let me get to the point: our goal is to provide you, our very loyal, incredibly attractive, and above-average intelligent customers with useful information. It may be new product reviews, it may be background on a new favorite wine varietal, or it may be a new cocktail recipe we’ve discovered. We just want to inform, educate, and maybe have a little fun along the way.

Cheers!
